About

I'm Anurag Sood, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Marman Climate-Smart Finance. My career has been a journey from chartered accountancy and business journalism at Reuters to leading global sales at IBM and Mphasis. Today, I am deeply committed to the intersection of finance and sustainability, specifically focusing on how we can make CleanTech 'bankable' for SMEs and startups in India. Beyond climate finance, I'm an active investor and co-founder in the ed-tech and plant-based sectors, driven by the belief that systems follow incentives and that impact investing can deliver robust financial returns. I’m always looking to connect with fellow investors, founders, and anyone passionate about India’s clean-energy transition to explore how we can turn high-level climate ambition into measurable, ground-level reality.

Background

Career

Began in consulting at Arthur Andersen, transitioned into business journalism with Reuters, then held senior leadership roles in BPO and sales at IBM and Mphasis before pivoting to impact-focused entrepreneurship in ed-tech, vegan marketplaces, and climate finance.

Education

Chartered Accountant (1994–1997); Certificate in Entrepreneurship, Berkeley UC Extension (2010); Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), Shri Ram College of Commerce (1991–1994).

Achievements

  • IBM Global Golden Circle winner for three successive years of high double-digit growth.
  • Scaled healthcare client portfolio at Daksh eServices from 100 to 1,000 FTEs in three years.
  • Set up and managed Reuters Financial Television (RFTV) operations in India in 1999.
  • Lead negotiator for multi-million dollar global sourcing strategies at IBM.

Opinions

  • Systems follow incentives; capital must be redirected toward resilient, measurable impact.
  • Repeated bailouts of state-run DISCOMs fund problems rather than fixing them; privatization is necessary.
  • CleanTech must be democratized through affordable finance and cash-flow linked models (PAYGO) to succeed in developing countries.
  • Investing for impact does not preclude strong financial returns.
